Why did illegal who horribly abused his 18-month-old son demanded to be set free & court let him walk away ?

I would be willing to bet a very substantial amount of the crime in Mexico never makes it to the record books, or the newspapers. But I would believe in some areas of Mexico, that is the way things are done.
